2012 Spring Salem Race

Congratulations to standing Vice-President Craig Korsen for a truly spectacular performance at the 2012 Spring Salem Race, the first NEPRO race of the 2012 season.  Craig won Frist Place in AMA 424 while also capturing a Fast Time of 1:19.02 in the same event.  And yes, almost forgot, won First Place in AMA 426 too!  It was bit of a struggle to manage holding all of the plaques at the after race awards ceremony.

Congratulations to 2012 NEPRO member Jessica Haxhi who was called to AMA 424 Second Place by her dad Irv Thurrott.  Jessica missed tying for first by a single point.

Congratulations to Mike Masi, Irl Brown, and Peter Tani who wound up in a three-way tie for Third Place and ended the day in 3rd, 4th and 5th, respectively based on fast times.  This was Peter’s very first time placing as an Expert flyer.

Congratulations to Ray Dolat for his Second Place finish in AMA 426, also missing a tie for first by one point.  Ray also won Fast Time of the day in AMA 426 with a blistering 1:04.51.  Ray and Lloyd Burnham battled early in the day with Ray the victor on the last lap.  I believe it was obvious to even the un-initiated the magnitude of this battle that was between Titan’s.  It was quite a race to watch.

Congratulations to NEPRO President Joe Tropea, Calvin Stewart and Mike Masi who closed out AMA 426 with 3rd 4th and 5th place finished respectively.

Thank you Kevin Cyr for taking over and doing a spectacular job with the 2012 trophies.  Thanks also for running the Raffle and for greasing the rails in very many capacities throughout the day.

Thank you NEPRO Secretary Bob Triggs for hauling the trailer, setting up the course, and a great many other things.  Thank you Bob Beaudette for announcing and of course Monica and Louisa for running the race day computer.

Saturday open flying and practice was a success with about 14 pilots in attendance.  The weather was drizzle and some rain in the morning which brought calm winds and no issues with heat or sun.  It was nice to see fellow racers without the usual concerns for time and the rigors of race day competition.

Race day brought 24 pilots in AMA 424 and 12 Pilots in AMA 426.  Great when entries are divisible by four.

If you had not paid by the drop of the first flag on May 6, 2012, your season points will NOT be counted towards championship awards regardless if you pay after the first race.

The long standing unpublished and unenforced rule that non-members pay an additional $5 entry fee will be enforced for 2012

As before dues are waived for first year members.

As before your entry fee covers all of your rights as a entrant, usually top five places and fast time awards. Racing A-La-Carte in this lousy economy.

Hint: Join early, have fun, race well, and take home the hardware and your Championship Jacket come November.

2012 Nepro Race Format

In 2012 we have increased the number of races from which Nepro year end points are drawn. Specifically, in AMA 424 we will change from best five races to the best six races. In 2012, Nepro will no longer conduct AMA 426 as a demonstration and we will be competing for National points in this class. We will draw from the best five races in AMA 426 to calculate the final standings at the end of our 2012 racing season.

The Intimidator 500, winner of the 2009 Nepro Standard Class Championship is once again available.  The kits are very competitive with nice touches like one piece balsa wing skins/ cores.  They are now laser cut and incorporate the ideas, techniques, and experiences of many including the manufacturer and top pilots.  Contact information is available at National Balsa Co. Hardware is not included, however landing gear is now included with the kit.  Landing gear is also available for purchase.
